Parent-Counselor Aide Letter
Dear Parents and potential Counselor Aides,
I’d like to share some important information about our Counselor Aide program here at Beulah Beach. I have put it together in a question answer/format in hopes that many of your questions will be answered. Please take the time to completely read through this information before you apply.
What hours do the Counselor Aides work and what is the cost?
Our Day Camp Counselor Aides are registered as a day camper and are cared for and participate in all events just as a camper would. They come at regular registration time (7:30-8:30am) and they leave at the normal registration time (5:00-5:30pm). Day Camp Counselor Aides are not permitted to spend the night during their registered week. They are given a $40 discount off of the regular registration fee in appreciation for their service to our counseling staff throughout the week.
What is the role of a counselor aide? What will my child be doing?
Counselor aides serve as an extra set of hands for our counselors. They stay with their counselor and group for the entire day and week. They help with meal set up and serving, monitoring counseling groups with the counselor, helping to keep the group together and making sure the campers' belongings get safely into their backpacks each day, as well as any other help that is needed. They are always under the supervision of a counselor or the Day Camp directors. Counselor Aides can be an incredible help to our counseling staff if they come ready to serve, help wherever needed and enjoy helping younger children, others and, of course, come to have fun!
How does my child apply to be a counselor aide?
All counselor aides must fill out and submit an application. This can be found on the bbeach.org website under Day Camp. Each applicant will be interviewed by one of the Assistant Day Camp Directors - usually by phone. PHONE INTERVIEWS TAKE PLACE IN JUNE 2017.
Will my child be able to be a counselor aide for every week they sign up and request?
Counselor Aides are assigned specific weeks to serve based on a few criteria:
• their availability throughout the summer (as indicated on their application)
• our needs according to weekly registration numbers
• the number of other counselor aides applying
• weekly evaluation of their service while a Beulah Beach.
Counselor aides are not guaranteed registration for all of the weeks they request. In the past, some weeks are more popular than others for Counselor Aides and we have more aides willing to work than needed. I try to assign weeks so that every one has equal opportunity to serve. I am also happy to have the most incredibly helpful young men and women come back week after week - as are my counselors!
When will I know if my child is assigned to work?
I try to do a schedule one month at a time because I do have to be mindful of camper registrations and base my counselor aide need accordingly. Typically, a letter is sent home indicating the weeks your child is needed.
What is the most important thing my child should understand about being a counselor aide?
The position of counselor aide is one that my counselors really appreciate! I know as a mom, I could have used an extra set of hands while chasing after my 2 kids each day. Our counselors really appreciate the service and help of the counselor aides, as they are caring for up to 10 kids all day long. We are looking for those special young men and women, with a heart for serving to fill our counselor aide positions.
We would love to interview your child and discuss the possibility of becoming a Day Camp Counselor Aide. Please fill out an application to begin the process!
Blessings to you,
Day Camp Director
